WHAT IS COMPLEX TRAUMA?
Complex trauma refers to prolonged, repeated exposure to interpersonal harm — often beginning in childhood within caregiving relationships or systems meant to provide safety. Unlike a single traumatic event, complex trauma accumulates over time and disrupts the fundamental processes of development: how we regulate emotions, form attachments, see ourselves, and move through the world.
Understanding complex trauma requires moving beyond a single diagnosis. It calls for a framework that accounts for the full range of how early, chronic harm shapes a person across multiple domains of functioning — from the body and brain to identity, relationships, and behavior. This course provides that framework.
