About Mindshift Center
Mindshift Center is a trauma-responsive counseling practice and clinical training center in Quincy, Illinois. We provide individually paced therapy in person and by telehealth across Illinois and Missouri. In addition, we train the clinicians, supervisors, and organizations who do this work alongside us.
One Practice, Two Connected Missions
Counseling for clients
Our therapists provide counseling for trauma, complex trauma, anxiety, panic, obsessive thinking, grief, and depression. Complex trauma is a core specialty; however, we intentionally keep a balanced caseload so that every concern gets real attention.
Training for professionals
We also train therapists, supervisors, educators, and agencies through SPARCS, complex trauma courses, Psychological First Aid, and on-demand continuing education. As a result, more people in our communities can respond to trauma well.
Recognized Complex Trauma Expertise
A designated center for complex trauma treatment.
The State of Illinois Complex Trauma Training Institute.
All of our trainers are Complex Trauma Training Affiliates of the Consortium.
Our founder co-chairs the NCTSN Complex Trauma and Developmental Trauma Disorder Work Group.
What Trauma-Responsive Means at Mindshift Center
Trauma-informed care focuses on awareness, such as understanding that trauma is common and adjusting language accordingly. Trauma-responsive care, however, goes further. It means actively changing clinical practice, session structure, and supervision in response to trauma.
In practice, our therapists consider the whole person rather than assuming that a diagnosis, symptom, or trauma history automatically determines treatment. Then, as therapy moves forward, we pay attention to what is helping and adjust when needed.
Our Mission
We empower individuals and strengthen communities by using effective practices, tools, and strategies to address mental health and wellness.
Our Vision
We strive to create a supportive, affirming, friendly environment to change lives by partnering with others to promote effective practices in mental health and wellness.
Our Core Values
Six values guide how we work with clients, train professionals, and support one another.
- Respect. We value every person, honoring the inherent uniqueness of their story, experience, and perspective.
- Curiosity. We strive to genuinely understand the lived experiences of people.
- Empowerment. We support people growing, thriving, and making differences in their lives and communities.
- Integrity. We strongly uphold moral and ethical principles in our daily practice and in the delivery of our services.
- Welcoming environment. We value the safety, comfort, and well-being of others and strive to provide an inclusive atmosphere in which everyone feels welcome.
- Quality. We provide high quality services based on current research and effective practices for wellness, and we continuously evaluate and strengthen our approach.
