About Angel
Dr. Angel Knoverek has more than 25 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. She holds a doctorate in Counselor Education & Supervision and a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Illinois, Licensed Professional Counselor in Missouri, and Approved Clinical Supervisor.
Angel has extensive experience in trauma-responsive care and serves as Co-Chair of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network’s Complex Trauma and Developmental Trauma Disorder Work Group. She is also a Master Trainer in SPARCS (Structured Psychotherapy for Adolescents Responding to Chronic Stress) and Psychological First Aid.
In addition to her clinical work, Angel has directed counselor education programs and served as university faculty, training and supervising counselors throughout her career.
Approach to Care
Angel describes her style as warm, affirming, and grounded in contemporary clinical knowledge. She takes time to understand the whole person rather than assuming that a diagnosis or symptom automatically determines what someone needs from therapy.
Her approach is collaborative and strengths-based. She pays attention to what is happening now, the experiences and patterns that may be contributing to it, the strengths and resources a client already has, and what they want to be different. Treatment is individualized, with the focus and approach adjusted based on what is most helpful for each client.
